Jokowi Appreciates Philippine Surfers

IMPERIUMDAILY.COM-JAKARTA- Action of Roger Casugay, a Filipino surfer, saved Indonesian athletes, Arip Nurhidayat received President Joko Widodo’s appreciation. Arip rolled the waves in the third round of the 2019 SEA Games longboard open at Monaliza Point San Juan La Union, Friday (12/06/2019).

Jokowi gave appreciation through his personal Instagram. Winning the competition is important, sportsmanship must also be upheld, but humanity is above all.

My appreciation for Philippine surfer Roger Casugay, who gave up the opportunity to win a gold medal to help his competitor, Indonesian athlete Arip Nurhidayat who fell in the race.

Greetings from Indonesia.

At that moment, the rope at Arip’s leg came loose. He fell and was hit by big waves, making Roger an easy chance of victory. But Roger was not interested. He prefers to help Arip. Without thinking, Roger approached Arip to save him from the waves.

Officers on the beach readily helped Roger to help with the evacuation. Arip is transported to the beach by jet ski.

At the 2019 SEA Games, Indonesia won two gold medals from surfing sports, namely the women’s long board open number by Dhea Novitasari, men’s short board by Hairil Anwar. (bln/wan)
