IMPERIUMDAILY.COM – DOHA – Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp admitted that his team did not perform optimally when facing Flamengo. But Liverpool deserved to be the winner in the Club World Cup final at the Khalifa International Stadium, Doha, Qatar, early Sunday morning WIB.
Liverpool threw away a lot of opportunities and fell behind possession of the ball from Flamengo before finally ensuring victory through Roberto Firmino’s goal in the first extra round.
“Obviously an intense match. For many reasons, clearly it was not the best match we have ever played,” Klopp said in a press conference after the match was launched by Liverpool’s official website.
“However, that is more than enough to get a win, even though it must pass 120 minutes, but that is okay,” he added
Klopp also admitted he would watch the re-match against Flamengo in search of needed tactics. The German man did not hesitate to say his team performed better than their opponents.
“From the physical aspect, both teams suffered a lot tonight. Goalkeeper Flamengo was cramped, showing how many matches they had,” he said.
“I respect Flamengo, their season is extraordinary. But tonight is not the problem, but rather a better decision in a decisive moment to find victory,” Klopp said completing.
After Firmino scored, Klopp took a rational step to add a lot of fresh energy to include James Milner, Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri in order to maintain excellence.
It proved to be effective and Liverpool kept their lead until the match whistle sounded delivering Klopp and Liverpool’s squad in Qatar with champion medals and showered with confetti when they lifted the inaugural World Cup Club Club trophy. (ant/wan)
